A New Zealand woman survived a shark attack while walking along a beach at night. This is reported by CBS News.
The 21-year-old was walking knee-deep in water along the shore of an estuary
in Riverton on Monday night, December 18, when she was attacked by a shark. The predator bit into her leg, causing serious bleeding. The girl called an ambulance and was taken to hospital in a moderate condition.
Following the incident, police said that one of the reasons for the attack could have been the timing of the walk, as sharks usually hunt after dark. In addition, law enforcement officials suggested that the girl was likely attacked by a seven-gill shark, because this species is more common in the estuary. This shark has jagged teeth, it, according to experts, “often bites and can be aggressive if provoked”. Semijaber sharks survive safely in shallow water, only needing a meter of depth.
