Experts began to draw similar parallels again in 2023. The topic has become relevant against the background of the forecast of analysts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – that Germany is likely to be the only one of the G7 countries whose GDP will decrease by the end of 2023.
At the moment, the German economy is in crisis. According to the country’s federal statistical office, its GDP last year fell by 0.3 percent year-on-year, and the country faces recession at the end of 2023.
At the same time, the head of the Bundesbank Joachim Nagel called the application of such labels to the FRG incorrect. According to his forecasts, the situation will improve in 2024 and Germany’s economic indicators will grow.
